A Cautionary Tale
Offa’s Dyke is an ancient earthwork running along the border between England and Wales. It is reputed to have been constructed by Offa, who ruled the ancient kingdom of Mercia from 757 to 796. Nowadays there is a long-distance footpath that follows the Dyke for much of its route and it was as I was walking this some years ago that the following story came to me.
